IoT indoor protection system

My final degree project at the University of Cádiz: an IoT home automation system designed to reduce the risk of COVID-19 indoors.

01

The problem

Airborne transmission is more likely in closed rooms with poor ventilation. The goal was to measure indoor conditions continuously and let the home react on its own.

02

The device

A sensor node that measures the air and reports it over the network. In this model: a 3D-printed enclosure, a main board with a Wi-Fi microcontroller, the air-quality sensor, a display and a light pipe for the status LED.

03

The system

The readings feed a home automation system that stores them, shows them and acts on them, for example by turning on ventilation or raising an alert when the air gets worse.

04

End to end

From the enclosure and the electronics to the software that makes the data useful: the same chain I have worked across ever since, now in production at Acciona.

The 3D model is illustrative.
